In October students were given the opportunity to apply for vacancies within the newly formed Production team, to work alongside teachers and non teachers, to create and produce content for various school publicity needs.
Students were invited to interviews and all those who applied were successful in gaining places within the team. Student were then invited to suggest names for the groups which would reflect the range and diversity both of the team, but also for the industry in general. The names chosen were:
The names chosen represent well known people from the areas of communications, science, photography, literature and journalism.
The relevant groups have met on a number of occasions to work on tasks set. All students meet to discuss ideas, proposals, progress and content which are monitored by staff. All the work completed is done outside of lessons or after school. This does not interfere with school work and no lessons are missed.
Examples of the Production Team work can be seen within Scoop this month and they will form an integral part of the team who produce Scoop. Other examples will shortly be seen on newly installed display boards within the reception area at school. Other tasks include content creation for the schools website, intranet and plasma display screens. A separate group of students have been chosen from within the group to form a TV and Radio production group for the fledgling Summerhill TV and Radio Summerhill. More on this soon.
So to quote Mr Holden, "If you have a production project, if no one else can help and if you can book them, maybe you should call the Summerhill Production Team!"
